The commissioners voted 4-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 21st, to purchase 65 acres on the west side of Nob Hill Road, north of Heron Bay Boulevard, for $25.41 million from the North Springs Improvement District (NSID). The city will have a 90-day due diligence period before closing. Part of the land is in Parkland and part is in Coral Springs.

ā€œOur commission is committed to developing the land in a way that ensures our unique Parkland charm and characteristics are honored and embraced,ā€ Parkland MayorĀ Rich WalkerĀ said. ā€œIt is our intention to ultimately seek a developer who will partner with us to produce the desired outcome for all of our residents.ā€

The entire Heron Bay Golf Club property totals 220 acres. The NSIDĀ purchased the full siteĀ from Canada-based ClubLink for $32 million in 2021. The NSID, a quasi-government entity that provides water and drainage services for parts of Parkland and Coral Springs, issued a request for proposals to sell the 65 acres along Nob Hill Road to a developer.

Parkland officials decided to make an offer for the site so that their city, not the NSID, would determine how the site is used in the future.

The North Springs Improvement District is seeking developers to buy part of the Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs.

The NSID, which provides water and drainage services for much of Parkland and Coral Springs, has the 220-acre shuttered golf course at 11801 Heron Bay Blvd.Ā under contractĀ for $32 million. It will convert much of the site into a preserve with walking trails and stormwater retention ponds. However, it has decided to sell 69 acres of the property along Nob Hill Road.

Fort Lauderdale-based Katalyst Real Estate, led by PresidentĀ Don Ginsburg, was hired by the NSID to market the property. The NSID issued a request for proposals to consider bids for the land.

Ginsburg said the NSID wants to sell commercial development on the site for a use that will draw residents from the surrounding community. The only restriction is that the land canā€™t have homes. The RFP documents mentions about 20 retailers the community would like to see there, including bowling alleys, high-end retailers and sit-down restaurants.
